Historic Follansbee Terne Metal Roof & Integrated Gutter RestorationFor this historic West Chester estate, Sugarsbridge Contractors was brought on to address a failing contemporary standing seam metal roof. Modern pre-fabricated metal systems frequently fail on older structures due to incompatible expansion lines and modern shortcuts. Lead roofing specialist Kevin Dunleavy engineered a historically accurate, high-performance system from the structural deck up to permanently protect the property's architectural legacy.
Technical Material & Installation Specifications:
Authentic Historic Metallurgy: Installed traditional 28-gauge Follansbee Terne (tin) metal, specified to deliver exact historical replication and unmatched long-term weathering characteristics.
Double-Lock Standing Seams: The metal pans were formed and locked on-site using a precision 1-inch double-lock standing seam profile to guarantee permanent wind uplift resistance and eliminate reliance on modern exposed sealants.
Custom-Engineered Drainage: Fabricated a fully custom, integrated in-roof copper or terne pole gutter system, smoothly directing massive water runoff while preserving the historic eave profile.
Hand-Soldered Seams: All connecting seams, eave pipes, and transitions were meticulously finish-soldered by hand with traditional 1/2-inch lock seams to ensure a completely seamless, monolithic water barrier.
Corrosion-Proof Fastening: The entire system is anchored utilizing hidden cleats secured with 100% stainless steel fasteners to permanently prevent rust bleeding and galvanic corrosion.
