Historic Building Restoration: 16oz Copper Standing Seam & Torched Modified BitumenHistoric buildings with mixed-roof geometries require specialized metallurgical skills paired with high-performance flat-roof waterproofing. For this project, Sugarsbridge Contractors engineered a dual-system solution: installing custom copper standing seam pans on the sloped architectural profiles and applying a commercial-grade modified bitumen membrane across the low-slope sections to guarantee complete weather protection.
Technical Execution & System Specifications:
Heavyweight Copper Standing Seams: Fabricated and installed cold-rolled 16oz architectural copper panels with traditional 1-inch standing seam locks, engineered to handle structural expansion while providing lifetime weather protection.
Integrated Snow Retention System: Installed a heavy-duty, color-matched brass/copper snow rail retention system along the lower eave, preventing hazardous snow slides while protecting the building’s historic gutter lines.
Torched Heat-Weld Application: For the low-slope roof sections, applied a multi-ply modified bitumen membrane utilizing a precision torch-applied heat weld. This creates a monolithic, seam-fused waterproof seal capable of standing up to standing water and severe ice buildup.
Precision Flashing & Transitions: Meticulously hand-soldered all metal transition seams, wall flashings, and curb penetrations to bridge the gap between the copper standing seam panels and the low-slope membrane seamlessly.
